Gearing Up for Infinity War!

Avengers: Infinity War comes out this Friday!! To help you get in the mindset for this, lets look at what everyone is saying about it!

How should you watch the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Much like the Star Wars universe, release date doesn’t necessarily tell the best version of the story. There is so much confusion with the timeline, especially because of Spider-Man: Homecoming, that this is the best we can find to put everything.

Phase One

Phase Two

  • Iron Man 3
  • All Hail the King (one-shot )
  • Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (season one: episodes 1 — 7)
  • Thor: The Dark World
  • Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.(season one: episodes 8 — 16)
  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  • Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.(season one: episodes 17 — 22)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
  • Daredevil (season one)
  • Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.(season two: episodes 1 — 19)
  • Avengers: Age of Ultron
  • Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.(season two: episodes 20 — 22)
  • Ant-Man
  • Jessica Jones (season one)
  • Daredevil (season two)
  • Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.(season three: episodes 1 — 19)

Phase Three

Jealous Directors

A few years ago, Steven Spielberg came out with his prediction on the future of superhero movies:

Pay no attention to the ironic links to Infinity War articles on the side…

For a guy who basically defined a decade of film, he has a lot of power in his words, and probably has a good idea of what he is talking about. When I first heard this opinion, I was upset for him throwing shade, and scared that he was right. However, I later learned, westerns lasted a lot longer than I thought they did. Westerns were the big hotshot of cinema for roughly 50 years, literally half of the 20th century. The peak of Western TV in 1959 saw 26 shows on prime time television. That trumps the 15+ that we currently have between CW, Fox, ABC, and Netflix. So we actually are still ramping up, if Spielberg is accurate.

More recently, however, was the James Cameron wish for “Avengers Fatigue.”

He says “It’s just, come on guys, there are other stories to tell besides hyper-gonadal males without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process. It’s like, oy!” Ant-Man, Guardians, Spider-Man, all about underdog goofballs who try to save the people close to them. Not everything is Age of Ultron.

This is from the guy, who not only is planning on creating four more installments in the Avatar story line, but is actually saying “I’ve found myself as a father of five starting to think about what would an ‘Avatar’ story be like if it was a family drama,’ he told reporters. ‘What if it was ‘The Godfather’? It’s a generational family saga. “

The Godfather from Avatar? I don’t know if he is afraid that comic book movies are going to take away attention from his films, but you can’t say you need different stories, then create a franchise from a movie few people want to see more of.

Real World Locations

Reddit user MrRLopez took the time to find each and every real world location from all over the MCU including the ABC and Netflix shows.

Where Are They Now?

Lastly, lets take a look at where we have last seen each character, so we can figure out how they get together for Infinity War.

Wakanda Team

Captain America

We see Cap go rescue his friends from the Raft at the end of Civil War, but then we also see him drop off Bucky to be frozen until they can figure out how to rewire his brain to not be part of Hydra anymore. It makes sense how he ends up there.

End credits of Black Panther, we see Bucky has woken up thanks to Shuri and her technical prowess.

Wherever Cap goes, Falcon is always right behind him. It’s getting really tough to figure out who is the better friend at this point. Bucky has more history, but Falcon has helped Steve go through the toughest challenges yet.

Black Widow

Here is where it gets interesting. She spent the entire movie of Civil War fighting alongside Iron Man, until the 11th hour where she slows down Black Panther just long enough for Cap and Bucky to get away. So we can assume that she tracks him down, and given their history in Winter Soldier, it makes sense why Cap would welcome her back to the team.

We know Hulk was with Thor at the end of Ragnarok, but given how that movie ends with them nose-to-nose with Thanos’ ship, it makes sense that he could get thrown back to Earth, luckily though for him to land in Wakanda with his friends.

War Machine

Now this is really weird. War Machine was Tony’s sidekick, much like Bucky/Falcon is to Steve, so why is HE in Wakanda? He was last seen with Tony trying to learn how to use his legs again after the airport fight.

Scarlet Witch

We see Wanda Maximoff get rescued from the Raft by Cap at the end of Civil War. It makes sense that she is part of his team still.

While Vision and Scarlet Witch were on different sides of the fight during Civil War, they built such a strong relationship beforehand that they probably will stick together from now on. It also probably doesn’t help that Tony is mad at Vision for hitting Rhodey with the beam meant for Falcon, almost killing him.

New York Team

Doctor Strange

Last seen at the beginning of Thor: Ragnarok doing his magic thing, helping Thor find his father Odin, just in time for his last moments.

Strange’s assistant Wong there to help.

Iron Man

We last saw Tony helping out Rhodey at the new Avengers HQ, angering his buddy Secretary of State General Ross. So if Tony is still in New York, that really brings into question why War Machine isn’t.

Bruce Banner

Wait a minute. Didn’t we just say that Hulk is in Wakanda? Maybe that’s why War Machine is in Wakanda, is the two of them go to offer support?

Space Team

other team

Iron Man

He starts off in New York, but probably follows and helps Spider-Man as he climbs on the giant spinning circle above New York.

We know that Peter Parker is still living with Aunt May, of course now she knows that he is Spider-Man at the end of the movie. Therefore he might be one of the first responders to the Thanos arrival in New York.

Guardians of the Galaxy

We last saw the Guardians kill Ego at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2, however, according to canon, that was about three years before the opening of Infinity War, so we really have no idea what they have been up to. Given their intense history with Thanos however, it makes sense they would have spent this time tracking them down.

The Rest of Them

The Missing Links

We see Captain America save Ant-Man, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, and Falcon from the Raft at the end of Civil War, two of them aren’t in the trailers nor the posters. So of course now the internet is freaking out about the absence of Ant-Man and Hawkeye. WHERE ARE THEY??

We end Ragnarok with Thor and Hulk, being face-to-face with Thanos’ ship, and Hulk makes it back to Earth, but judging from the trailers, Thor does not, but ends up on the Guardians’ ship instead.

Nick Fury

All that’s left is S.H.I.E.L.D. who is in hiding after the rise of Hydra in Winter Soldier. After Winter Soldier Fury mentioned going to Europe for a bit, and though he showed up for a great assist during Age of Ultron, we haven’t seen or heard anything from him since. Hopefully Agent Maria Hill is kicking it with him, and they both will make a reappearance in Infinity War. Is it asking too much for the return of Coulson while we’re at it?
