Whats Next In a Galaxy Far, Far Away?

With The Last Jedi a month away (Dec 15), and Solo five months after that (May 25), we have gotten a lot of news on our galaxy far, far away.

The Last Jedi

The Last Jedi is coming out soon! At this point, I’m sure you’ve heard the theories that Snoke is only 6 inches tall, and that Kylo Ren and Rey are cousins, so we won’t get into those, instead, did you hear that near the set where they were filming, they tried to hide the Millenium Falcon from passersby, by surrounding it with shipping crates? We know this because Google Maps got us this beautiful picture…

Solo

Alternately, we haven’t gotten much of anything regarding the new Solo movie, even though it arrives in about six months. We got our first real look at Alden Eldritch in his Han get-up, from a cup in a movie theater! We see him chilling out with Gamora, Newt Scamander, Gnomeo and Juliet, Deadpool, and others with the Millenium Falcon in the background being cool. I like that they are allowing Han’s outfit to continue to grow and evolve, and maybe we’ll see when he gets into a fight with Greedo and takes his vest and girlfriend.

New Trilogy

Rian Johnson, the writer/director for The Last Jedi is not going to be working on Ep. 9, and it is because he will be helming a new trilogy in the Star Wars saga. Popular theories state that the new trilogy will be set in the Old Republic, where the Jedi and Sith go from major clashing factions, to the Sith almost being wiped out entirely by Darth Bane, which leads the Jedi Order in the prequels to believe that the Sith have been destroyed, only to be surprised by Darth Sidious, Count Dooku, and Darth Maul.

New Show

On Disney’s new streaming service, there is going to be a new live action Star Wars show, in an attempt to build up their options to be more of a competing force with the Netflix/ Hulu/ Amazon web-based original content streaming services. The Disney+ is starting some point in 2019, and might even be pulling the Marvel/Netflix Defenders shows off of Netflix, and onto their service.

Back to Star Wars, however, and theories on this new show! Some are that they will pick up Underworld, a live action show George Lucas was writing back in 2008, before Disney bought Lucasfilm. Underworld was a gritty film noir style show, set on the ground of Coruscant that we saw in Ep. II, timed between Eps. III & IV. With the success of the Marvel/Netflix shows and their dark and dirty set pieces, or the character heavy aspects of Game of Thrones, we see that nerds like our streaming services very different from cable shows. The real question is whether or not Disney will let such dark content on the “Happiest Place on The Web.” I really hope so, Disney has proven that they can give us Jessica Jones as well as Phineas and Ferb in the same universe, so hopefully they are willing to go even further.
