Once again, the movies are still a little out of whack lately, as we aren’t out of this mess yet. However, with online releases being much more popular, here are the movies you should keep your eye out for in the upcoming season.
April 2
Godzilla vs. Kong

The epic next chapter in the cinematic Monsterverse pits two of the greatest icons in motion picture history against one another – the fearsome Godzilla and the mighty Kong – with humanity caught in the balance.
A couple of Kaiju kickin’ it. And by it, I mean each other, repeatedly.
April 16
Mortal Kombat

MMA fighter Cole Young seeks out Earth’s greatest champions in order to stand against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe.
This movie will be bad. But will it be just bad enough that it’s the good kind of bad? You know, like the other Mortal Kombat movie?
April 27
Justice Society

The Justice Society of America, a group of heroes aiding the allies in World War 2, makes an ally from the future who sends them on a history-changing adventure.
It’s obvious that when it comes to live action, I’m a Marvel guy. But, DC animated movies are some of the best comic movies ever, and this looks like fun.
May 7
Black Widow

A film about Natasha Romanoff in her quests between the films Civil War and Infinity War.
It’s MCU, you know it’s on the list.
May 21
Free Guy

A bank teller discovers that he’s actually an NPC inside a brutal, open world video game.
Ryan Reynolds is becoming a real nerd icon lately, and I am HERE FOR IT.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw

A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw.
You know, I’m not the biggest horror movie guy (Chanel is though). However, I love detective movies, and those aspects were able to get me through the Saw franchise. Now, it’s even more about the detective stuff? Sign me up!
Army of the Dead

After a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries takes the ultimate gamble by venturing into the quarantine zone for the greatest heist ever.
Zack Snyder does a zombie movie? That seems like a genre that his weird style would do very well in. I’m excited!
Edit: BrendisOddAndEnds.Wordpress.com reminded me that this is actually Snyder’s second zombie film as he remade Dawn of the Dead. Still excited!
May 28
A Quiet Place Part II

Following the events at home, the Abbott family now face the terrors of the outside world. Forced to venture into the unknown, they realize the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats lurking beyond the sand path.
This was the first movie we were supposed to get that got delayed. I have been (im)patiently waiting on this for over a year now. GIVE IT TO ME!!
Cruella

A live-action prequel feature film following a young Cruella de Vil.
Cruel Devil is getting a spotlight movie? I don’t think it’s going to be good, but you can’t deny the charisma that is Emma Stone.
June 11
In the Heights

A feature version of the Broadway musical, in which a bodega owner has mixed feelings about closing his store and retiring to the Dominican Republic after inheriting his grandmother’s fortune.
I am a HUGE Hamilton fan, and this musical is what gave Lin-Manuel Miranda the resources to make that show. Not only that, but the lead role is played by Anthony Ramos, who played John Laurens/Philip Hamilton. He’s great.
June 18
Luca

On the Italian Riviera, an unlikely but strong friendship grows between a human being and a sea monster disguised as a human.
Just like how MCU will always get a mention, so too will Pixar. I’m watching it.
Zack Snyder already has done a Zombie movie. He remade Dawn of the Dead.
