This spring was set to be a great one, but due to the Coronavirus COVID-19, many of them have been delayed. Usually this seasonal post is to show you what to get excited for, but this time around it’s just going to be an update on what movies have been delayed, and if they have new release dates instead.
!Delayed! – A Quiet Place Part II
Unknown new release date, but planning on being in 2020 still.
Following the events at home, the Abbott family now face the terrors of the outside world. Forced to venture into the unknown, they realize the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats lurking beyond the sand path.
If you remember, A Quiet Place won the 2018 Nerddy for Best Picture, so I am extremely excited for this film.
!Delayed! – Mulan
Unknown new release date.
A young Chinese maiden disguises herself as a male warrior in order to save her father. A live-action feature film based on Disney’s Mulan.
I have yet to be interested or entertained by any Disney Live Action Remake (Lion King, Beauty and the Beast), however, I have always been entertained by the Disney Live Action Reboots (Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland). Mulan is one of my favorite Disney movies in general, so this reboot has excited me since I first heard about it.
!Delayed! – The New Mutants
Unknown release date, still planning on being in 2020.
Five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.
Sure, this movie was delayed two whole years (before Coronavirus), but it was filmed after the Deadpool/Logan realization that Fox could make irregular superhero movies that were great. So I am still holding out hope.
!Online! – Trolls World Tour
This movie hasn’t been delayed, but will go immediately to Video on Demand, some form of streaming service, as will The Hunt and The Invisible Man.
Sequel to the 2016 animated hit.
!Delayed! – Antlers
Unknown release date, still planning on 2020.
A small-town Oregon teacher and her brother, the local sheriff, become entwined with a young student harboring a dangerous secret with frightening consequences.
It has Guillermo Del Toro’s name on it, so why not?
Two friends embark on a cross-country road trip where they prank people using hidden cameras. <NSFW>
!Delayed! – Black Widow
No new release date set.
A film about Natasha Romanoff in her quests between the films Civil War and Infinity War.
The first step into Phase 4, even though it’s set in the middle of Phase 3. Marvel has a tendency to never let anyone die, so even though she’s dead, we still get more Black Widow stories.
The Personal History of David Copperfield
Based on the novel by Charles Dickens.
A comedy set during Victorian England, that actually looks enjoyable. Holmes and Watson should take note.
Scooby and the gang face their most challenging mystery ever: a plot to unleash the ghost dog Cerberus upon the world. As they race to stop this dogpocalypse, the gang discovers that Scooby has an epic destiny greater than anyone imagined.
Listen, no Scooby-Doo movie is going to be as great as the 2002 one. That’s just a fact. But if you’re not looking for a Scooby-Doo movie, then maybe you’re looking for the next movie in the Saw franchise below.
A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in SPIRAL, the terrifying new chapter from the book of SAW. <NSFW>
I think we all got a little tired of the torture p0rn that the Saw movies turned into, but the first one was incredibly innovative, and it seems like they are flipping the script on us once again.
!Delayed! – F9
New release date set for April 2, 2021.
Cypher enlists the help of Jakob, Dom’s younger brother to take revenge on Dom and his team.
Now, I don’t know a lot about this franchise, but I thought one of the biggest aspects were how nothing is more important than your family. So now Vin Diesel has to fight his family?
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run
After SpongeBob’s beloved pet snail Gary is snail-napped, he and Patrick embark on an epic adventure to The Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary home.
Those of you that know me know that I unironically and unabashedly love Spongebob. I understand that it’s not for everyone, but the first movie was great, (the second movie was garbage) and I am ready for this one.
!Online! – Artemis Fowl
Artemis Fowl, a young criminal prodigy, hunts down a secret society of fairies to find his missing father.
I know this was popular to a lot of kids growing up, and while I don’t know much about it, that trailer looked pretty dope.
Wonder Woman 1984
Plot unknown. A sequel to the 2017 superhero film Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman is still the best Worlds of DC movie yet, so of course I’m super excited for this.
!Delayed! – Candyman
A “spiritual sequel” to the 1992 horror film Candyman that returns to the now-gentrified Chicago neighborhood where the legend began.
Between this and Doctor Sleep, is this a new trend in horror? We went through a long phase of the “found footage,” so spiritual sequels could be a cool avenue to go down.
A musician who has lost his passion for music is transported out of his body and must find his way back with the help of an infant soul learning about herself.
I love Pixar, my onlyl worry is that the last time they released two films in one year, no one went to see The Good Dinosaur (even me), so hopefully this doesn’t get overlooked in the same way.
