The Nerdd

4 Types of Real Life Superheroes

We’ve all had that moment of “if I were a superhero…”. Then, with the comic and movie Kick-Ass, it helped us think “maybe I CAN be a superhero…”.

Well, you aren’t the only one. There are all kinds of Real Life Superheroes (RLSH), vigilantes who put on a costume, and patrol the streets. I’ve noticed, however, that there are three types of Real Life Superheroes.

Before we begin, The Nerdd believes that the greatest heroes in the world are the men and women of our armed forces. We Support You.

Public Advocates

There are some who have created their own Hero Persona, and travel the streets, but instead of fighting crime, they are dedicated to helping the homeless, or alerting police. They bring hope, and know their limits. These are great citizens, and they deserve your respect.

Top Left to Clockwise: Thanatos, Redbud Woman, Crimson Fist, Zetaman, Life

Untrained Patrollers

These are people who, even though they dress up in flashy costumes, do almost nothing to stop or deter crime. Sometimes they call the police when they see a crime, and then do nothing else. Sometimes they are just in it to feel cool, but just like the attention they get.

Top Left to Clockwise: Master Legend, Knight Warrior, The Eye, Black Rat, Mr. Xtreme

Actual Vigilantes

The real deals! These are trained vigilantes, who have stopped crimes, actually saved people, and have gotten hurt in the process. These guys are not afraid to get in the fight, because that’s what needs to happen to be a real vigilante. Phoenix Jones is the most famous, and has brought a sense of legitimacy to modern day vigilantism.

Top left to clockwise: Seven, Phoenix Jones, Shadow, Shadow Hare, Dark Guardian

Superhero Groups

There are a number of Real Life Superhero teams, that fall into all three of these categories. If you are interested in joining the world of Real Life Superheroes, whether an Actual Vigilante or a Public Advocate, see if any of these teams are near you.

If I Were a RLSH

Now, if you’re anything like me, it’s impossible to read a list like this, and not think about what you would do, were you a vigilante.

My name would be Guard Dog, and I would be a mix between Nightwing and Daredevil. Leather clad brawler, with a few items to help me out.

Weapons would be a couple batons/escrima sticks, have handcuffs to make citizen’s arrests, and riding around on a motorcycle.

I would have a loud whistle, as well as an enhanced hearing aid, to mimic the super hearing of canines. The escrima sticks fits with dogs playing fetch, and some black tennis balls, as distractions.

Of course, having training in boxing and Krav Maga would be necessary, in order for me to not fall into the “Untrained Patrollers” group.

If you want to know more about RLSHs, go to this website, do some research on your own, and maybe even come up with your own Hero Persona.
